Day 1: N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary, Greater Windhoek

Greater Windhoek

Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, lies at the heart of the country, encircled by magnificent mountains, expansive valleys, and fertile farmlands. The landscape of the Greater Windhoek area surrounding this bustling city is characterised by vast valleys, thick scrub, rocky hills, and covered in golden savannah. Visitors can explore the dry river beds and mountainous scrublands, as well as enjoy birding, leopard-spotting and view large quantities of wildlife in the north; visit the more arid eastern part with its olive, potato, and date plantations; explore the rolling hills of the Khomas Hochland Mountains in the west of the Greater Windhoek area and soak up the epic views along a number of scenic passes leading off the high plateau, including Bosua Pass, Gamsberg Pass, and Spreetshoogte Pass.

Day Itinerary

Game Viewing Close to Windhoek

Welcome to Namibia! Your Nature Travel Namibia guide will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall of the airport with your name on a signboard. After loading your luggage into the vehicle, we will have a short 45-minute drive to our first lodge, located close to the airport. If we are lucky, we will encounter our first wildlife along the road to the lodge.

Depending on the time of your arrival, we will enjoy a sundowner game drive on the neighbouring Zannier Reserve. Sunset game drives reveal the elusive beauty of the nocturnal savannah. If we are lucky, we will see a great variety of wildlife including rhinos, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, ostriches, black-backed jackals, warthogs and various antelopes and birdlife.

We will enjoy our first dinner together and discuss the afternoon's sightings and rest up for our adventure to come!

Overnight: N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary

Originating as a small wildlife sanctuary nestled in the Namibian bush, the N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary has flourished into a world-famous conservation organisation. Situated on the same reserve as the Naankuse Lodge, it provides a safe haven and second chance for injured, orphaned and conflict animals. Wherever possible the aim of the sanctuary is to release animals back into the wild.

Day 2: Sossusvlei Lodge, Sesriem

Sesriem

As there is no accommodation at Sossusvlei, visitors to this desert wilderness are likely to end up staying at Sesriem, 65 kilometres away, where camps and lodges serve as a base from which to explore the dunes. Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon.)

Day Itinerary

his morning, we will meet up for breakfast at 8:00 am and discuss our plans for the day. After enjoying a hearty Namibian breakfast, we will make our way to our next destination.
We will make regular stops along the way to take photographs of the beautiful landscape. Mid-morning, we will stop for a coffee break at a perfect lookout point and enjoy the vast beauty of the Namibian vista.
If time allows, we will stop for the "famous Apple Pie" in Solitaire, a true Namibian tradition that cannot be missed. This journey will take approximately 4 to 5 hours. We will arrive at our lodge located close to the entrance gate of Sesriem in time for watching the beautiful sunset and enjoying some drinks while we discuss the plans for tomorrow's early start.
Situated in the largest conservation area in Africa (the Namib-Naukluft National Park), Sossusvlei is possibly Namibia’s most spectacular and best-known attraction.
