6 Day Classic Wildlife Safari and Zanzibar

Day 1:Marera Valley Lodge, Karatu

Karatu Travellers heading for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater will pass through the town of Karatu in the green hills of Tanzania’s northern highlands. Presided over by the towering Ol Deani Volcano, this small, colourful town serves as a popular overnight stop for visitors exploring the area’s many game parks. The town offers a variety of activities including browsing the bustling marketplace, sampling beer at a local brewery, visiting a traditional homestead, or taking a guided walk through the Ngorongoro Forest in search of waterfalls and caves. Whether you are looking for cultural tours, hiking and biking opportunities, a chance to enjoy an authentic rural Tanzania experience, or simply a break between safari game drives, this underrated town has plenty to offer.

Day Itinerary

Embarking from Arusha, our safari will commence as your designated guide collects you from your prearranged hotel. From there, we will venture toward Tarangire National Park, engaging in an enthralling game drive. Your guide will identify the ideal location within the park where you will indulge in a delightful picnic lunch. Concluding the game drive, we will then make our way to Karatu for a delectable dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Tarangire National Park gets its name from the Tarangire River which is the sole source of water for wildlife during the dry season. The park is renowned for its abundant population of elephants, striking baobab trees, and African pythons that climb trees.

Day 3: Villa Kiva, Matemwe

Matemwe Sandwiched between tropical greenery and the warm azure waters of the Indian Ocean, remote Matemwe beach is arguably the most enchanting of all the beaches in Zanzibar. Located on the last stretch of sand before the beaches give way to rugged cliffs on the uninhabited north-east coast of the island, Matemwe offers an unspoiled natural landscape, perfect for a relaxing tropical beach holiday. With its lovely shallow lagoon and the coral gardens of the renowned Mnemba Atoll resting just off the coast, Matemwe boasts some of Africa’s most impressive diving and snorkelling sites where you can marvel at the abundance of exotic marine life including colourful reef fish, turtles and many species of dolphin. Above water, visitors can experience a local fishing trip on a traditional dhow, visit nearby markets and villages, or simply kick back under a palm tree and unwind, far from the stresses of the modern world.

Day Itinerary

Enjoy breakfast and gather your lunch box as we proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Today, you will have the chance to witness the breathtaking view of Lake Manyara, observe elephants up close in the woodlands, and visit the renowned Manyara hippo pool where numerous hippos reside from early morning until late evening. After the game drive, we will drive back to Arusha for your scheduled flight to Zanzibar (the flight departs at 16:45 and arrives at 18:15).

Lake Manyara National Park offers a magnificent view of the 400-meter-deep Great Rift Valley. This geological wonder, formed around 22 to 25 million years ago, stretches thousands of kilometers throughout East Africa. The valley's immense size allows it to be seen from outer space, and it boasts a variety of unique landscapes that attract a diverse range of animal species.
