10-day, 9-night odyssey through some of Tanzania's most captivating and lesser-explored gems—Udzungwa Mountains National Park, Ruaha National Park, Mikumi National Park, and Nyerere National Park. This meticulously crafted itinerary invites you to discover the diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes that define these unique corners of Tanzania.
Starting in Udzungwa Mountains National Park, you'll be surrounded by the lush greenery and pristine waterfalls of the Eastern Arc Mountains, offering a rare glimpse into a biodiversity hotspot. From there, the journey leads to Ruaha National Park, a vast wilderness where the Great Ruaha River meanders through undulating landscapes, creating a haven for a profusion of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and an array of bird species.
Mikumi National Park, with its open savannahs and acacia-dotted plains, presents a classic African safari experience. As you traverse this park, witness the harmonious coexistence of diverse flora and fauna against a backdrop of sweeping vistas.
Day 1: Udzungwa Falls Lodge, Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Udzungwa Mountains National Park Spread across the Eastern Arc Mountains, Tanzania’s Udzungwa Mountains National Park boasts a diverse range of natural habitats including tropical rainforest, mountain forest, miombo woodland, grassland and steppe. This vast expanse of unspoiled wilderness serves as a habitat for over 400 animal species. These include, among others: elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, African wild dog, six different species of primate, and a variety of birdlife. Tourism is centred around hiking as the park is only accessible on foot. The most common walk is the Sanje Waterfalls trail which takes around four hours to complete and allows visitors to swim in the refreshing plunge pools at the bottom of this impressive 170-metre waterfall. The incredible diversity of tropical flora and fauna species has earned the park recognition as an Ecoregion of Global Critical Importance by the World Wildlife Fund, as well as a World Biodiversity Hotspot.
Day Itinerary
Depart from Dar es Salaam at 08.00 for Udzungwa National Park. Arrival time will be in time late afternoon/early evening. Overnight at a lodge, full board
Overnight: Udzungwa Falls Lodge
Udzungwa Falls Lodge is located on the slopes of the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The region’s activities and attractions include Udzungwa hikes, waterfalls, flora and fauna, as well as wild game. The lodge is set up as an idyllic, romantic weekend escape and a magnificent family vacation getaway. With 40 en suite rooms, the lodge has been carefully constructed to cause minimal impact on the surrounding Udzungwa forest, which acts as a catchment area for water that is used domestically in the village and for irrigation in the sugarcane plantations.

Day 2: Udzungwa Falls Lodge, Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Day Itinerary
After breakfast take a walking in the park and thereafter go for up the Sanje waterfalls for a refreshing swim and stunning views. Overnight a lodge, full board UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARK opened to the public 1992 and one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Tanzania. Covering an area of 1900 sq km., the uniqueness of this park lies in its biodiversity in hosting a variety of animals and plant species not found anywhere else in the world. The red Colobus and the Sane crested manbrey, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and sable antelopes are some of the residents in this park. A good range of birdlife is present which includes Rufus winged sunbird, Iringa akalat, Lagden’s bush shrike and Udzungwa partridge.

Day 3: Ruaha River Camp, Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park: Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds. Crocodiles and hippos thrive in the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the sanctuary’s eastern border and in the dry season between July and November, animals flock to the last remaining water sources, presenting an exceptional wildlife spectacle. There are a number of accommodation options available but some close for the wet season in March and April.
Day Itinerary
Depart in the morning after breakfast for Ruaha National Park.
The drive to Ruaha is a truly fascinating one which gives you the real feel of the African countryside. The journey will see you pass sisal plantations, local villages before climbing the Great Rift Escarpment passing through Iringa Town and finally arriving to your Lodge. Arrival time will be late afternoon and overnight at a Lodge, for the night, full board.

Day 4:Ruaha River Camp, Ruaha National Park
Day Itinerary
Today you will enter the Ruaha National Park in search of game life. Leaving the lodge immediately after breakfast, we arrive at the parks’ gate search of the elusive wild dogs, herds of elephants and buffaloes. After picnic lunch, continue with late afternoon/evening game drive before departing for the lodge. This is the time that predators begin their hunt for their evening meal, dinner and overnight at a Lodge, full board.

Day 5:Ruaha River Camp, Ruaha National Park
Day Itinerary
After breakfast, depart for a walking safari which will bring you close to some of the smallest animals and plants that you would not see on a vehicle game drive. The crisp fresh African air mixed with the wild smell of the animals evokes your smell sense to the intoxication unique bush smell of Africa. Each plant and tree has medicinal value in the African Community and our guide will point them out for you. Game drive follows and overnight at a Lodge, full board
RUAHA NATIONAL PARK, Tanzania's 2nd biggest park and host to a number of animals which rare or absent in the North. The rare animals include the African Wild dog, roan and sable antelope and the greater kudu. The Great Ruaha River, which provides life to the park, flows through the eastern side of the park and is home to hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds

Day 6: Mikumi Safari Lodge, Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park Situated just 300 kilometres from the capital, Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest park and one of its most accessible national parks. The landscape is characterised by low-lying wetlands flanked by mountains on either side. Diverse wildlife inhabits the park’s 3230-square-kilometre area, including lion, buffalo, buck, civet, crocodile, snake, lizard, hippo, zebra and even packs of wild dogs, which are seldom seen in other parts of the continent. The floodplain also supports over 400 species of bird, both resident and migratory species. Visitors can look forward to various activities including wildlife viewing, bird watching, visiting the educational and research centre, and viewing the massive collection of baobabs near Mbuyuni.
Day Itinerary
After breakfast depart for Mikumi National Park via a traditional African village at Twingamalenga. Late afternoon game drive and overnight at a lodge, full board.
MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK is flanked between the Uluguru and Udzungwa Mountains. Mikumi National Park is home to buffalos, giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras and leopards. The park is also famous for its wild dogs and 6m long pythons.
Overnight: Mikumi Safari Lodge
Mikumi Safari Lodge is located about 6.5km off Tanzam Highway and about 294km from Dar es Salam. It is built on high ground, 727m above sea level enjoying the cool breeze under the natural forest on the buffer zone of Mikumi National Park. Mikumi Safari lodge offers 8 cottages integrated into the environment with total privacy, each fitted with warm and cold shower in a spacious bathroom.
Each cottage features a raised balcony offering stunning views. The cottages are solar powered and also features a standby generator. The lodge also boasts an onsite restaurant offering both Tanzanian and international meals made fresh from local products while the bar offers a wide range of wines, spirits and soft drinks.

Day 7: Authentic Tanzania Selous Maji Moto Camp, Nyerere National Park
Nyerere National Park: Formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania's Nyerere National Park is Africa’s largest National Park. Stretching over an impressive 30,893 square kilometres, the park is home to some of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife, and the incredible diversity and sheer volume of animals draw visitors from around the globe. Travellers can look forward to spotting a wide collection of common and rare species including the famous Big Five, some rare species of antelopes like Roan Antelope, and large concentrations of elephant and hippos. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a boating safari on the exquisite Rufiji River, spot the endangered African wild dog, and enjoy a guided walking safari with a highly knowledgeable guide.
Day Itinerary
Early morning game drive in Mikumi before departing for Selous northern gate. The drive will be through some of the most scenic parts of Southern Tanzania. Villages and the Uluguru Mountains dot along the way. You will make a short lunch break by the road side arriving at the lodge by late afternoon. Late afternoon game drive and overnight a Lodge, full board.
Overnight: Authentic Tanzania Selous Maji Moto Camp
Selous Maji Moto Camp is an intimate, comfortable mobile wilderness camp in Selous Game Reserve. The camp is seasonal, only set up when wildlife viewing is most spectacular throughout the months of June, July, February and March. We have 4 tents at the camp, for twin, double or family occupancy, but we can accommodate larger groups on request. The lounge area is open air with sofas by the camp fire, and the dining tent is shaded. The tents are full height and en-suite with hot water bucket showers and flushing toilets. The wooden beds have thick mattresses for a comfortable sleep. Three course meals are cooked by expert bush chefs and your drinks are on ice. This is not a pretentious luxury camp, rather a truly authentic and wild experience.

Day 8: Authentic Tanzania Selous Maji Moto Camp, Nyerere National Park
Day Itinerary
Take the day exploring Selous as the famous explorers did in the yester years. Picnic lunch will be under shady trees with a relaxing visit the hot springs.

Day 9: Authentic Tanzania Selous Maji Moto Camp, Nyerere National Park
Day Itinerary
Early morning walking safari, followed by the afternoon boat safari. The boat safari brings you close to the aquatic animals and birds. Overnight at a Lodge, full board. Return to lodge late evening in time to freshen up and for dinner.
Selous Game Reserve covering 50,000sq km, this is the largest game reserve in the Africa. The reserve supports an enormous number of elephants, buffalos and wildebeests. Other rare species include the African Hunting dog. The park provides home for some of the last remaining black rhinos.
